At Montrose Place we recognise that every client will present with a complex of symptoms and behaviours unique to them and as such they will require a multi-disciplinary treatment programme personalised to meet their specific needs.

The clinical staff of Montrose Place and a team of internationally renowned advisors have pooled their wealth of knowledge and expertise to design a powerful holistic programme to effectively treat clients struggling with addictions, chemical dependence, compulsive behaviours and mood disorders.

Addiction, Chemical Dependence and Compulsive Behaviour

An addiction is defined as a state of dependency on a chemical substance (substance addiction) behaviour or relationship (process addiction). Addiction is typified by an overwhelming physiological and/ or psychological need for, and a compulsive inability to resist, a particular substance, behaviour or relationship despite adverse consequences. An addiction may be further characterised by withdrawal symptoms in the instance of sudden deprivation from, and/ or an increasing tolerance to, the substance, behaviour or relationship in question.

Compulsive behaviour is a pattern of behaviour or mental activity that an individual feels habitually compelled to engage in, in spite of its being either clearly excessive or not realistically capable of achieving its desired objective.

In a fully-fledged state of addiction or compulsion, a range of psychological, neurological and spiritual dynamics are actively at work within the affected individual often resulting in a condition of existential bankruptcy. The symptoms associated with both substance and process addictions and compulsive behaviours are isolating, time-consuming and often the cause of severe emotional and economic stress or loss.

It is therefore at the heart of our philosophy at Montrose Place to restore our clients to physical, psychological and emotional strength and wellbeing and prepare them to protect themselves from the dangers of deteriorating recovery or relapse.
